History
- 1887Founded as the University of Pennsylvania's museum of archaeology and anthropology (per Wikipedia, following the Nippur expeditions).
- 1890Francis C. Macauley gave Cypriot pieces (bowl 64221, bottle 61519); his estate sold a further sherd (31638) in 1897.
- 1890A 'Richter-Collection' (MS 1-204, 475-488 in the Museum archive) from Ohnefalsch-Richter was acquired; Sara Yorke Stevenson ran the Egyptian and Mediterranean section and corresponded with him (about forty letters, 1892-1900).
- 1895Ohnefalsch-Richter offered antiquities to the Museum in circulars of 13 January and 16 March 1895; Merrillees records a statuette bought from him in 1895 said to come from Erythrai (not Cypriot).
- 1931First American organised dig in Cyprus: Bert Hodge Hill led a small team at a cemetery at Lapithos for the University Museum (tombs 801-838).

Costello says the dig prioritised public buildings likely to yield objects for the Museum.
