Ellen Kohler
fl. 1951–1972
University Museum staff member thanked in the Kourion publications: she went to Cyprus with S. S. Weinberg in 1951 and saw the Kourion figurines volume of 1955 into print.
Biography
Ellen Kohler is named in two prefaces to the University Museum's Kourion publications, once for travelling to Cyprus and once for getting a book printed. John Franklin Daniel died in 1948, having just finished his last campaign at Bamboula, Kourion, without analysing the results1. In summer 1951 Saul S. Weinberg, with a grant from the American Philosophical Society, went to Cyprus to study the site's architecture, "accompanied and ably assisted by Ellen Kohler, who at all times has rendered useful assistance in the preparation of this volume"1. The words are from the preface of Jack L. Benson's Bamboula at Kourion of 1972.
In the preface to their monograph on Kourion terracotta figurines, John Howard Young and Suzanne Halstead Young thank the Museum staff and write that "Miss Ellen Kohler has been primarily responsible for seeing the book into print"2. Neither preface gives her title or dates.
