The Cypriot collection

This record covers Penn's university-side work in Cyprus (the Kyrenia shipwreck expedition and later survey and excavation partnerships). Penn's Cypriot collections and the Kourion expedition belong to the Penn Museum record. The Kyrenia ship itself stayed in Cyprus.

History

  1. 1967
Michael Katzev, a Penn doctoral student under George Bass, led the Cyprus Underwater Archaeological Search around Akamas, Paphos, Cape Greco and Cape Andreas, with Susan Katzev, Jeremy Green and E. T. Hall. Late in the season the team was shown the Kyrenia wreck found by Andreas Cariolou two years earlier. Nicolaou calls it the University's first exploration season.
