Suzanne Halstead Young
fl. 1939–1956
Co-author with John Howard Young of the 1955 University Museum monograph on the terracotta figurines excavated at Kourion by the Pennsylvania expedition between 1934 and 1948.
Biography
Suzanne Halstead Young is known from one book, Terracotta Figurines from Kourion in Cyprus, which she wrote with John Howard Young for the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania in 1955. The Youngs had barely begun the study when war interrupted it in 1939, and it resumed almost ten years later; the book covers finds up to the 1948 season of the Pennsylvania expedition1. In the summer of 1946, with the permission of George H. McFadden, they re-examined the area of the Votive Deposit in the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates. The text does not separate the two authors' shares. The preface thanks Bert Hodge Hill as "our Director" and A. H. S. Megaw, then Director of Antiquities, among others, and the book is dedicated to McFadden, who began the excavations at Kourion1.
Reviewing it, Dorothy Burr Thompson called it the first systematic study of ordinary Cypriot figurines from an excavation, and said about 3,000 pieces were chosen from some 10,000 fragments3. Megaw described it as "a major event"4. Her dates and any appointment she held are not recorded.

- 1946In summer 1946, with George H. McFadden's permission, the authors ('we') made a final investigation of the Votive Deposit area at the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates: digging under the rubble wall at its NE corner (figurine fragments joining catalogued pieces) and a pit in the adjoining building (bedrock at 65 cm). The text says 'we' and does not say which author dug.
