  1. 1992
    The first university in Cyprus opened to students in autumn 1992, with an Archaeological Research Unit (ARU); the Unit moved into its own facility in autumn 1993. Study was at postgraduate level only in 1995.

    Demetrios Michaelides moved from the Department of Antiquities (Paphos Archaeological Officer 1982-92) to a professorship of archaeology; later Director of the ARU.

    First season of excavation at Politiko-Phorades, a primary copper-smelting site, by Bernard Knapp and Vasiliki Kassianidou (University of Cyprus); over 2000 kg of slag and some 20 near-complete tuyeres recovered.

    The documentation of Olivier Masson (d. 3 Feb 1997), much of it on Luigi Palma di Cesnola, was donated by his widow Emilia Masson to the ARU and is held in its library as the Olivier Masson Archives.

    ARU excavation at Agioi Pente, Yeroskipou (Byzantine remains, a Proconnesian-marble tomb found in road works), at the invitation of the Mayor of Yeroskipou, with excavation permits from successive Directors of the Department of Antiquities (Hadjisavvas, Flourentzos, Hadjicosti); funded by the University and the municipality. Dates not given in the text read; 'four excavation and three study seasons' by the account.
