The Cypriot collection

Its Archaeological Collection is the George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides collection: more than 600 Cypriot antiquities on display, of which 442 catalogue numbers were published in 2002; 104 further objects were added on long-term loan in 2015. It also administers the Pierides Museum in Larnaca (about 2,500 objects per tourism sources). (2015)

    The Bank of Cyprus founded the Foundation, with the stated aim of encouraging research on Cypriot civilisation and rescuing Cypriot cultural heritage. The date and the aim are the Foundation's own account.

    The Foundation's Museum of the History of Cypriot Coinage was established (Foundation's own account).

    The Foundation published A. Le Brun's guide Khirokitia: A Neolithic Site, with the English text revised by Costoula Sclavenitis and the edition prepared by Marie-Lise Mitsou; Andreas Patsalides is listed as President in the same book.

  5. 1999
    Clio and Solon A. Triantafyllides, daughter and son-in-law of George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides, donated the Giabra Pierides collection to the Foundation. Karageorghis's 2010 catalogue also records the gift as that of the collection bearing the couple's name.

    The Museum of the George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides Collection opened on the Foundation's premises in the 1936 former Bank of Cyprus administrative building on Faneromeni Square, with Karageorghis's catalogue Ancient Art from Cyprus in the Collection of George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides (442 catalogue entries, 16 contributing specialists).

  8. June 2013
    After the wind-down of Laiki Bank, the Foundation absorbed the operations of the former Laiki Bank Cultural Centre and took over management of the Pierides Museum in Larnaca. The Bank's own page describes this as management, on the Bank's behalf, of the Trust between the Bank and the Pierides Foundation; where object ownership sits is not stated.
