Series·Swedish Cyprus Expedition

Objects: terracottas

340 object photographs

Site: Katydhata

This series holds 340 photographs of terracotta figures and statues whose museum record gives no find-place. The captions sort them by the style names the expedition used for Cypriot sculpture: Proto-Cypriote I and II (108 photographs), Neo-Cypriote, Cypro-Greek II, and "Minor Plastic" 1 to 5 for small figurines, with a group captioned "Idols". In Gjerstad's scheme the First Proto-Cypriote style belongs to about 650–560 BC; the Ayia Irini terracottas were the basis of that sequence.

Some prints show pieces in other collections: the British Museum, the Cyprus Museum, and objects from the Cesnola Collection cited by their numbers in Myres's Handbook (H.C.C.). A few come from the KVHAA set photographed by H. Andersson.

The terracottas from the expedition's sanctuaries, with their excavation numbers, are in the Ayia Irini and Mersinaki series. The Handbook of the Cesnola Collection is in the Archive.
