Field diary·DII:2b·1928
Milia, Soli and Kythrea
Kept by Alfred Westholm
95 handwritten pages in Swedish, each shown beside a transcription and an English translation, with the drawings on 3 pages cut out beside the text.
DII:2b holds three short pieces of work by Alfred Westholm, whose name is on the cover. The first and longest is the diary he kept during the excavation of the Late Bronze Age cemetery at Milia, north-west of Famagusta, from 9 February to 3 March 1928. The cover adds "Μηλιά (not Ayios Iakovos)"; the expedition also dug a cemetery called Melia at Ayios Iakovos. Westholm later published four of the Milia tombs in the Quarterly of the Department of Antiquities in Palestine, vol. 8.

The Milia entries explain that tombs with Mycenaean and Phoenician vessels prompted the work, then describe trial holes, looted dromoi and tombs 1, 10, 11 and 13 one by one: sections drawn, disturbed upper layers removed, skeletons identified (one a small, hardly grown woman laid with a child), and numbered find lists of Base-ring, Black Slip and painted vessels with heights. Two shorter sections follow: a description of the enclosure walls of the theatre at Soli, and of the Neolithic settlement at Kythrea, its houses and the order of its strata. The text is in Swedish.
