… around the theatre. The outer retaining wall is however not excavated over the whole stretch down to the rock-face. At two places the depth and the foundation on the bedrock are established. At the eastern diazoma entrance the wall however ends against the removed facing wall. Curiously enough the wall is not found on the other side of of (norrom) the eisodos. The wall, however, here has once certainly existed, partly as support for the eisodos' threshold sections, partly as substructure for the vaults at the entrance. This is proved with full clearness, partly by plaster and masonry traces in the rock- face partly eisodos, partly by a cutting in the rock below corresponding to the wall's width. Here was also found a quantity of waste from quarrying. Possibly the retaining wall north of eisodos has been laid of sought-after ashlar stones, which have been broken away (cf. west side). Externally the wall has rested against substructure wall IV, which here formed the façade.
