Series·Swedish Cyprus Expedition

Objects: Bichrome, Black-on-Red and other painted pottery

406 object photographs

This series holds 406 photographs of painted Iron Age pottery whose museum record names no find-place. The Archive groups such object photographs by class. Einar Gjerstad published the expedition's excavations separately from the typology and chronology of the finds, and these prints are filed by class, using the ware names of his Iron Age system: Bichrome I to VII and Bichrome Wheel-made, Black-on-Red, Bichrome Red, Red-on-Black, Polychrome and White Grounded.

More than half the captions name the Cyprus Museum as the vase's holder; others name the Statens Historiska Museum in Stockholm or the Metropolitan Museum, and twenty carry the name Heurtley. The record does not say which pieces came from the expedition's own excavations.

For painted pottery from known tombs, see the Stylli and Enkomi series. In the explorer, the Site filter's "No recorded place" gathers every photograph of this kind.
