Pottery Black-on-Red I-III bowl, Rijksmuseum Kröller - Müller, Otterlo

Black-on-Red I-III bowl with painted warriors carrying spears and shields, photographed on a wooden stand — Photograph: Swedish Cyprus Expedition, 1927–31. Medelhavsmuseet, Stockholm, Csn1946. Public domain (CC0).

Description

A footed bowl with two small lug handles, photographed in side view on a dark wooden stand against a grey backdrop. Its light-coloured body carries a frieze of dark painted warriors with helmets, shields and spears, separated by hooked cross-shaped motifs. A dark band runs below the figures, and a hairline crack with chips at the rim shows the bowl is damaged.
