Artemis Georgiou

fl. 2009–2025

Archaeologist of the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age who wrote an Oxford thesis on Pyla-Kokkinokremos and Maa-Palaeokastro and co-edited the publication of the Evreti well fillings at Palaepaphos.

Biography

Artemis Georgiou's Oxford D.Phil. of 2012 dealt with two sites, Pyla-Kokkinokremos and Maa-Palaeokastro3. Thomas Kiely records that Irene Lemos supervised it, calls it a fundamental rethinking of the Bronze to Iron Age transition and its sites, and says it was followed by further excavation at Pyla with Vassos Karageorghis and Athanasia Kanta1. From 2013 to 2017 she was a Marie Curie Research Fellow on the Paphos Urban Landscape project under Maria Iacovou at the University of Cyprus1.

In 2012 she edited the Oxbow volume Cyprus: An Island Culture and contributed a comparison of the two sites to it4,5. With Karageorghis she published a corpus of Late Minoan III pottery from Pyla in the Report of the Department of Antiquities for 20107, and she wrote the chapter on the Canaanite jars in the report on the 2010-11 excavations there6. For the Evreti wells at Palaepaphos she was co-editor, with C. von Rüden, A. Jacobs and P. Halstead, and author of the chapter on White Painted Wheelmade III ware9. In 2017 she and M. Dikomitou-Eliadou carried out pXRF analysis of Late Bronze Age vases, among them jars from the old Enkomi excavations, with the permission of the Department of Antiquities10.
