Life and work

    Published The Mycenaean Pottery: Analysis and Classification and The Chronology of Mycenaean Pottery (Stockholm), the shape (FS) and motif typology cited throughout Cypriot Late Bronze Age excavation reports; coined the term 'Levanto-Mycenaean'.

    Met J. R. B. Stewart in Sweden, discussed his chronology with him and advised him to draw up his own classification; later wrote to him of difficulties he faced working in Cyprus, which he put down to resentment at the amount of material removed from the island.

  3. 1947–1948
    Directed a Swedish expedition that partly excavated the Late Bronze Age settlement at Sinda, between Famagusta and Nicosia.

    Published the preliminary Sinda report in Arkeologiska Forskningar och Fynd (Stockholm, 1952), 'Ultravningarna vid Sinda' as cited by Benson; republished in English as 'Excavations at Sinda', Opuscula Atheniensia 6 (1965) 99-116. From Sinda he inferred a Greek immigration to the site between 1230 and 1200 BC.
