Murray C. McClellan

Professor of Classical Art, Boston University, active 1987–2005. Excavated at Kalavasos-Kopetra (with Sirmata) and Kalavasos-Mangia. Excavated with Marcus Rautman; worked for Boston University.
Life and work
- 1987–1993Directed, with Marcus Rautman, the University of Missouri-Columbia / University of Pennsylvania fieldwork at the Byzantine site of Kalavasos-Kopetra: intensive survey in 1987, excavations 1988-91 (small three-aisled gypsum basilica at Sirmata, late 6th century AD, destroyed mid-7th, probably in the Arab raids). The site had been identified by the Vasilikos Valley Project in 1978.

- 1989–1995With M. L. Rautman published the Kopetra season reports (RDAC 1989, 157-66; RDAC 1991, 225-36) and 'Where have all the farmers gone? The Cypriot countryside in the seventh to tenth centuries' (1995), whose finding of no evidence for those centuries Metcalf calls negative evidence.
- 1997–1998Co-curated with Pamela Russell the Cypriote exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the Ringling Museum, Sarasota, with Aaron H. De Groft as Ringling Project curator; he and Russell (and Pamela Gaber) studied the Ringling's Cypriote material, producing a complete inventory and photographic record.
