The project
In 1883 Williamson & Co. and Major Chard dug tombs at Kourion, and the Catalogue of the Cyprus Museum of 1899 records the campaign in its excavation chronicle1. The catalogue associates John William Williamson with the firm and names Major Chard as the other director1,2. Max Ohnefalsch-Richter was present as Government Inspector, a role Masson also summarises1,3.
The catalogue distinguishes Hellenistic tombs without glass from later tombs with glass, and gives no numbered tomb contexts or descriptions of individual objects1. Kiely and Merrillees keep the campaign apart from Ohnefalsch-Richter's other work at Kourion for Brown and Warren, in which he was the licensed excavator and not the government overseer; that work is a separate project (Ohnefalsch-Richter at Kourion)2.
The catalogue cites manuscript reports of 1883 from Williamson & Co. and from Ohnefalsch-Richter1. Under the campaign it lists four Cyprus Museum numbers, 2843, 3121, 3135 and 3173, without saying which objects they are1.
