The project
Porphyrios Dikaios excavated Tombs 1 to 17 in the Kaloriziki necropolis at Kourion; J. L. Benson describes them as excavated by the Cyprus Museum1. Benson, publishing the University Museum excavation of the necropolis in 1973, says the tombs were dug at about the same time as that work and were not yet published; he used photographs of their finds that Dikaios made available, and cautioned that the picture he presented might change when the full evidence appeared1. Valerie Cook reports that Tomb 5 contained a tripod jar, a handled cup and an amphoriskos2. Benson's chronology places Tomb 5 among tombs with Late Cypriot IIIB material and among tombs used in Cypro-Geometric I1. Dikaios also reported a Bichrome II amphora from the Kaloriziki cemetery, without naming the tomb3.
