British excavator and collector, active 1883–1885. Excavated at Kourion (Episkopi). Excavated with John William Williamson; employed Max Ohnefalsch-Richter.
Life and work
- 1883Given an unlimited excavation permit; Ohnefalsch-Richter was for some time appointed government supervisor of his digs at his own insistence, but was recalled in December 1883 to set up the Nicosia museum, after which the digs continued with no government or museum control (Ohnefalsch-Richter's account).
- 1883Hellenistic tombs at Kourion dug by Messrs. Williamson & Co. and by Major Chard, with Ohnefalsch-Richter as Government Inspector; Cyprus Museum nos. 2843, 3121, 3135, 3173 are listed under this entry.
- 1883Reinach: in 1883 Major Chard collected many statuettes at Episkopi (Curium); part was claimed by the Cyprus Museum.
