The project
Terence Bruce Mitford visited Kourion to work on inscriptions in 1936, 1949, 1954 and 19581. The inscriptions he found on these visits, among them the rock-cut documents nos. 6 to 12, and his revisions and re-editions of known texts went into The Inscriptions of Kourion (1971)1. He describes the early funerary texts at Kourion as cut on exposed rock surfaces1. For the syllabic inscriptions he supplied facsimiles, taken where possible from squeezes and hand-copies, as well as photographs1.
