Jolanta Młynarczyk

fl. 1977–2025 · Poland

Polish archaeologist whose 1990 study set out the street grid of Hellenistic Nea Paphos, and who later worked on the Fabrika hill sanctuary of Aphrodite Paphia with a French team.

Biography

Jolanta Młynarczyk, of the Polish Mission at Nea Paphos, proposed the street grid of the Hellenistic city in Nea Paphos III (1990)1. The book also assessed the work of Nicolaou on the Agora and Odeon and rejected his Temple of Aphrodite on Fanari hill, suggesting that the "steps" he took for the temple may be quarry traces1. She reads the "towers" described by Tschoudi in 1519 as the Saranta Kolones, where G. Vörös takes them for temple columns1.

Before that book she had worked in the field. In 1977-78 a University of Warsaw team recorded the rock-cut temple outline on Fabrika hill, and she published it in 1985 and 19903. In the early 1980s she excavated at the Villa of Theseus (Maloutena) with Z. Szetyłło and S. Medekszta, and a 1988 paper on tombs was written with D. Michaelides1. She edited the 1995 Nieborów workshop volume with H. Meyza1. With J. B. Connelly she published the Hellenistic lamps from Geronisos (2002), followed by studies of Pink Powdery Ware (2005) and sigillata (2009)1.

From 2018 a joint French-Polish mission worked at Fabrika, where Claire Balandier and the Avignon team had been active since 20083. Her 2020 article presents the 2018-19 campaigns, and Balandier and Młynarczyk 2021 gives the fuller report2.
