  1. September 1963
    At the 8th International Congress of Classical Archaeology in Paris, Jean Pouilloux and Vassos Karageorghis agree to create a French excavation mission at Salamis; academic sponsor the Institut Fernand-Courby, funded from the French Foreign Ministry's commission for excavations abroad. Karageorghis recounts that Pierre Devambez of the Louvre prompted the idea.

    Pouilloux and Jean Jehasse make a week-long preliminary visit to Salamis.

    A large expedition house with laboratories, drawing and photography workshops and storerooms was built in record time; Karageorghis describes it as an international training centre for Cypriot archaeology.

    First campaign (April 1965) of the Mission archeologique francaise de Salamine de Chypre in the southern sector of the city (south-east rampart zone, Archaic-Geometric quarter, later the 'Huilerie' residence, Campanopetra basilica); Karageorghis's Department dug the Royal Necropolis and the northern monuments in parallel. Pouilloux directed 1964 to summer 1972.

    Marguerite Yon succeeds Pouilloux as director of the French mission (1972 to 2007).

  7. July 1974
    The Turkish invasion ends fieldwork at Salamis after the spring campaign (April-June 1974); the autumn campaign did not take place. Karageorghis writes that when Pouilloux returned in October 1974 he found the French and Cypriot expedition houses vandalised and was refused his excavation notebooks as 'war booty'.

    Fieldwork moves to Kition (Larnaca), Bamboula quarter, under Yon; later seasons 1996-98 on the Phoenician-period shipsheds. Publication in the series Kition-Bamboula (vol. V, 2004).
