    First campaign at Kition-Bamboula (the so-called Acropole of Bamboula) by the Lyon II mission, directed by Mme M. Yon, under the patronage of the Commission des fouilles; aims were to extend Gjerstad's 1929 dig at the Herakles-Melqart sanctuary, identify earlier buildings, understand the formation of the mound and find the city limit toward the sea

    Second campaign (September-October): a Cypro-Geometric III altar building suggests a sacred place from the time of the Phoenician installation at Kition, against the 1929 reading of a sanctuary starting two centuries later; remains of a plundered Late Cypriot tomb with Mycenaean IIIB pottery also cleared
