French excavator and cataloguer, active 1964–1980. Excavated at Salamis. Excavated with Anne-Marie Larribeau and Jean Pouilloux; wrote with Olivier Callot.

Life and work

  1. 1970
    Studied the monument called the 'huilerie' (oil-press, from its last use) north of the Campanopetra basilica, begun 1969; Karageorghis reports that the study 'entreprise par G. Argoud' still posed many riddles and needed full exploration of the building.

  2. 1973–1974
    With O. Callot, B. Helly and A.-M. Larribeau excavated the Hellenistic temple of Zeus (Olympios) at Salamis, dated by the team to the end of the 2nd c. BC; an inscription (SAL. 7579) first found by the Cyprus Exploration Fund in 1890 was rediscovered in 1973 inside the cella.
