Ingot God
A bronze statuette of an armed god in a horned helmet, standing on a base shaped like an oxhide copper ingot, from Late Bronze Age Enkomi.
The figure, about 35 cm high, was found by Claude Schaeffer in a twelfth-century BCE sanctuary at Enkomi and is now in the Cyprus Museum. Armed with shield and spear, the god stands on a base in the form of the oxhide ingots in which Cypriot copper was traded. It is the clearest image of the bond between copper and cult in Late Bronze Age Cyprus. The god's name is unknown. See copper metallurgy.
