    Bought an Egyptianizing limestone votary head (71.AA.258), previously sold at Christie's London, 2 December 1969, lot 86, to Royal-Athena Galleries; the museum also bought a terracotta biga with driver (71.AD.146) and a statue of Herakles (71.AA.290) in this year.

    Bought a Chalcolithic cruciform figure, described by the museum as one of the largest known (83.AA.38, limestone, 3000-2500 BCE); the record gives no seller or earlier history, only 'sold to the J. Paul Getty Museum, 1983'.

    Getty staff took part in the conservation of the Orpheus mosaic at Nea Paphos with the Getty Conservation Institute and the Department of Antiquities: Director John Walsh is named in the Preface, Marion True as Curator of Antiquities, and Jerry Podany as Head Conservator of Antiquities.
