    Porphyrios Dikaios, first Cypriot director of the Department of Antiquities, left Cyprus in 1963 and taught at Princeton and at Brandeis for the following three years.

    First season at the Neolithic site of Kalavasos-Tenta, sponsored by Brandeis and funded by the US National Science Foundation, directed by I. Todd. Start of the Vasilikos Valley Project.

    Third campaign of excavation and survey in the Vasilikos Valley (July-November): Kalavasos-Tenta, Kalavasos-Ayious and the Bronze Age cemetery at Panayia church in Kalavasos village; again Brandeis-sponsored and NSF-funded.

    First rescue excavations at the previously unknown Late Cypriot II site of Kalavasos-Ayios Dhimitrios, necessitated by the new Nicosia-Limassol highway; streets with solidly built structures led Nicolaou to compare it to Enkomi.

    From late 1979 the project was sponsored by Brandeis and by the American Schools of Oriental Research; the National Science Foundation continued to provide all of the funding.

    Ten-week season (July-September) that completed the excavation of the Chalcolithic/Neolithic site in the valley, directed by Todd and A. South; a second season at Ayios Dhimitrios under Todd.

    A bronze cauldron found during illicit levelling in a field next to the Ayios Dhimitrios excavation was acquired by the Cyprus Museum and restored by its laboratory; its stratigraphic context could not be determined.
