Site: Marion

This series holds 254 object photographs of finds from Tombs 46–60 at Marion, near Polis tis Chrysochou, where Erik Sjöqvist excavated 98 tombs for the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929. The tombs belong to the western necropolis at Kaparka, on the edge of the modern village and next to the remains of Hellenistic Arsinoe.

Most of the burials are Cypro-Classical, but the run spans more than that: Tomb 50 dates from the end of the Cypro-Archaic period, and Tombs 58 and 60 were used again in the Hellenistic period. Tomb 58 has the most photographs, over fifty, and Tomb 60 about forty, including its objects of gold, silver, glass and cornelian. Tomb 50 contributes a silver hair-ring and faience amulets, and Tombs 53 and 56 groups of lead, bronze, alabaster, terracotta, iron and silver. The pottery is mostly Plain White, White Painted and Bichrome Red, with Black-on-Red jugs and Hellenistic vessels. Each object number gives the tomb and the find (M.58.46 is Tomb 58, object 46). The tombs are published in SCE II and have their own pages, for example Tomb 58 and Tomb 60. Photographs of several of these tombs during excavation are in the fieldwork series.
