Marion, finds from tombs 31–60 (tomb not recorded)

108 object photographs

Site: Marion

These 108 object photographs were filed in the museum's archive folder for Marion Tombs 31–60, but their records do not say which tomb each object came from. The folder name is all that links them to that part of the excavation. Erik Sjöqvist excavated 98 tombs at Marion, near Polis tis Chrysochou, for the Swedish Cyprus Expedition in 1929, and Tombs 31–60 all lie in the western necropolis at Kaparka, which was in use mainly in the Cypro-Classical period.

The photographs are almost all of small finds: finger-rings, beads, pendants and other jewellery, silver pieces, terracotta figurines, plaques, iron tools and nails. Since the folder is the only link, a print may also have been misfiled. Some objects may be identifiable from the object registers that SCE II gives for each tomb; the photographs with a recorded tomb are in Tombs 31–45 and Tombs 46–60. See also the excavation.
