    Began visiting Peg Goldberg's framing shop; said he was an art dealer who had searched for artefacts worldwide (Latin America); his condo held pre-Columbian, African and Oceanic pieces; she understood he had been a 'background picker' for antiquities galleries.

    Took Goldberg to Amsterdam, mentioned the Kanakaria mosaics, introduced van Rijn and Faulk; Goldberg agreed 3 July 1988 to buy for a little over $1m; he and van Rijn each had a 22.5 percent stake in resale proceeds.

Asked where the $650,000 gap between Dikmen's $350,000 and Goldberg's price went, said it was divided between himself and van Rijn; Hofstadter reckons the two netted $580,000 as brokers, plus later earnings from selling their back-end interests to Stewart Bick.
