Life and work

    Led a small University of Edinburgh team that worked with the Department of Antiquities (under V. Karageorghis) in the eighth and last campaign at Maa-Palaeokastro, a four-week season whose main aim was to study the Chalcolithic occupation of which earlier work had found traces.

    Steel reports that, to the south of the three reconstructed Chalcolithic roundhouses of the Lemba Experimental Village (devised 1982 to study the relation between buildings, architectural technology and site formation, using evidence from Lemba-Lakkous, Kissonerga-Mylouthkia and Mosphilia), groups of smaller buildings, walls and pits form an ongoing experimental-archaeology project under Dr Gordon Thomas examining destruction, collapse and site formation.
