Consul. Consul at Larnaca. Gave to Félicien de Saulcy.
Life and work
- 1850–1851Said to have bought, at metal weight in the Larnaca bazaar, a Phoenician silver-gilt bowl (Louvre AO 20135) that a goldsmith had begun to cut up for melting, and to have given or passed it to Felicien de Saulcy, who presented it to the Louvre in 1851. The anecdote is attested only in later retellings; Merrillees shows its elaborations are unreliable.
