A share of the Kouklia finds from the 1950-55 expedition (tomb groups, sherds, some metalwork), part of which was later returned to Nicosia and the Ayia Varvara tomb group transferred to the National Museum of Scotland. No total is given in the sources reached. (2020)

    Iliffe and Mitford decided to dig at Kouklia after hearing of Archaic sculpture found there, and persuaded Liverpool Museums and the University of St Andrews to pay for the work.

  2. 1950–1955
    Co-sponsored the Liverpool City Museum/St Andrews University Expedition to Palaepaphos, led by J. H. Iliffe for Liverpool and T. B. Mitford for St Andrews: the 1950 trial season, then tomb cemeteries (Skales, Evreti, Asproyi, Kaminia) and the Persian siege-mound to 1955.

    On closing field work, finds were divided under the pre-1960 Antiquities Law among Kouklia, Nicosia, St Andrews, Liverpool, Birmingham and Sydney (Nicholson Museum, for Asproyi Tomb IV).

  4. 1967
    H. W. Catling worked on the St Andrews share of the Kouklia material in April and March 1967, making up vessels from general sherds; a geologist at St Andrews, Dr Macgregor, identified a stone object as hornfels. Two gold earrings from Asproyi Tomb V were probably returned from St Andrews to Nicosia.
