The Cypriot collection
Over 400 Cypriot objects, mostly pottery and mainly Cypro-Archaic, bought in the 1960s; the Musée de l'Amérique française (formerly Musée du Séminaire de Québec) holds about 40 more bought in 1966 and 60 items given in 1991 (1996)
History
- 1960–1969Laval bought Cypriot antiquities in the 1960s from the Department of Antiquities and from the Nicosia dealer P. Kolokassides, through Jean Des Gagniers; the Kolokassides pieces were exported with the Department's permission. It also bought twelve ex-Cesnola vases from Stanford University.

- 1964First campaign at Soloi (summer 1964) on the Director of Antiquities' decision to give the site to a Canadian mission of the Université Laval; limited soundings only, in a tragic moment of the island's history.
- 1965Work really began in spring 1965: three soundings on the north slopes of the acropolis (a Roman building with colonnaded court, a large Roman edifice and a small glassmaker's workshop) and the south-east necropolis. Seven vases from Tomb IV (1965) later entered the Laval collection.
- 1966The Musée de l'Amérique française (formerly Musée du Séminaire de Québec) acquired about forty Cypriot pieces, also through Des Gagniers.

- 1966–1969Seasons 1966-1969: 1966 northeast of the theatre, remains of an Early Christian building (the basilica, excavated from 1966 under Tran Tam Tinh); 1967 (April) third campaign on the necropolis, the lower town and the basilica; 1968 (April) fourth campaign; 1969 continued. The 1966-69 Department report calls 1966 the 'second season'.

- 1971A bronze head was found in a house on the lower town (reported a year later as found 'last year'); Lilly Kahil completed excavation of that house in 1972.
- 1972Campaign April-May under des Gagniers: Ginouvès on the lower town, Tran Tam Tinh on the basilica, Kahil on the house and the publication of the 1964-70 tombs; Giroux collaborated with James Carpenter of Kent State University.

- 1973Two campaigns (April-May and October-November): the agora with its nymphaeum (a little over a third excavated; up to 5.5 m of overburden), the acropolis and the basilica.
- 1974Spring campaign (late March to May) in three sectors: acropolis (L. Kahil), lower town (R. Ginouvès), basilica (V. Tran Tam Tinh). The autumn campaign was prevented by the events of 1974 and the dig did not resume.

Reviewer Diana Buitron-Oliver: a good teaching collection, objects without specific provenance; the single fine pieces are a Bichrome V footed bowl, an over-life-size Cypro-Classical male head and a White Slip IIA bowl.
