25 photographs · 1900–99

Sites: Salamis, Soli, Vouni, Palaepaphos

Twenty-five photographs and postcards from the collections of the police officer Selwyn Roberts at CVAR. Fifteen are holiday snapshots of about 1958 at Salamis: Roberts and his friends posing beside the marble statues of the Roman baths, the Roman agora, and the colonnaded lane that leads to the Roman latrines.

Four are older printed postcards and photographs that CVAR dates to about 1918: the theatre at Soli looking towards Morphou Bay, the "Temple of Venus" at Kouklia, which is the sanctuary of Aphrodite at Palaepaphos, and the broken columns of Salamis lying among trees. One postcard bears the name of the publisher J. P. Foscolo. Six more are undated photographic postcards by Mangoian Bros.: four views of the ruins of Salamis, and two copies of a card of the central court of the palace at Vouni.
