    Published in the Annali dell'Instituto di Correspondenza Archeologica (1875, p. 221) an enquiry into the 'Indo-European' ornament (concentric rings etc.) of early vases, which Cesnola's 1878 book cites against Conze's theory and for a Phoenician origin of Cypriot vase types.

    A. P. di Cesnola (Salaminia, 1884) criticises 'Herr Helbig' for supposing the concentric-ring pattern on terracotta vases and jewellery to be due to metalworking artificers.

    Ohnefalsch-Richter (Kypros, the Bible and Homer) lists 'Herr W. Helbig' among German professors who have published the materials supplied by his Cyprus discoveries.
