Stanley Casson
1889–1944 · United Kingdom
Oxford archaeologist. Gave to Ashmolean Museum; acted for Cyprus Museum, Nicosia.
Life and work
- May 1935Gunnis, Inspector of Antiquities, wrote privately to Casson at Oxford (and Sir George Hill at the British Museum) about excavating the Miliou Neolithic site he had found on 12 May 1935; both immediately disclaimed interest. Gunnis's Appendix 1 statement cites Casson; the Government replied it was told on the best authority that neither Casson nor the BM had any such desire.
