Elena Poyiadji-Richter

fl. 2002–2023

Nicosia archaeologist and museum curator, author of the 2003 study of Cypriot funerary reliefs and co-editor of the 2014 volume on the Berlin Cyprus collection.

Biography

Elena Poyiadji-Richter, who also published as E. Pogiatzi, wrote Die Grabreliefs auf Zypern von der archaischen bis zur römischen Zeit (2003), a study of Cypriot funerary reliefs1. Antoine Hermary reviewed her later work and described that book as important5.

She was Assistant Curator at the Leventis Municipal Museum in Nicosia. Vassos Karageorghis thanked her in that post for help with his final study of the Phylactou collection, published in 2010 on its installation in the museum's Constantine Leventis Wing6. She was one of three curators of the exhibition Colours of Medieval Cyprus and is named as supervisor of its catalogue7. In 2011 she is among those credited as collaborators on Karageorghis's catalogue of the Angelos and Emily Tsirides collection8.

In 2013 she published a paper on funerary portraiture on Hellenistic grave reliefs from Cyprus in the Graz conference volume Hellenistic Cyprus2. With Karageorghis and Sabine Rogge she organised the Berlin conference of 8 May 2013 and edited its volume, Cypriote Antiquities in Berlin in the Focus of New Research (2014); Hermary names her secretary-general of the Cypriot-German Cultural Association4,5. Her own chapter treats the funerary sculptures in the Berlin collection, among them a banquet relief topped by a lion, a group from Mosfiloti and a seated terracotta woman from Marion3,5. In 2023 she edited the first volume of the catalogue of the Cypriot antiquities of Alexander Malios9.
