fl. 1996–2023 · Germany
Managing director of the Cyprus institute at Münster University and editor of its series, including volumes on 19th-century archaeology in Cyprus, the Berlin collections and Salamis.
Biography
Sabine Rogge edited the Münster volumes on how Cyprus was dug and collected in the 19th century. She is managing director (Geschäftsführerin) of the Institut für Interdisziplinäre Zypern-Studien at Münster University, which the Republic of Cyprus and the university founded jointly in May 1996 and which opened in 19971. Michael Recke, describing the institute in 2012, says it runs lectures and conferences, publishes a series and takes part in the Cyprus Thesaurus project, and that she and Margit Krpata edited the diaries of Eugen Oberhummer's journeys to Cyprus in 1887 and 18911.
Her own contribution to the history of collecting is the chapter "Raubgräber oder Forscher? Archäologische Aktivitäten auf Zypern im 19. Jahrhundert" (pp. 197-230), in Begegnungen, which she edited in 20071,5. In 2009 she edited Zypern und der Vordere Orient im 19. Jahrhundert, the proceedings of an institute symposium held in Münster on 27 and 28 October 2006. It contains studies of Max Ohnefalsch-Richter by Hartmut Matthäus, of the French in Cyprus by Hermary, and of Ludwig Ross by Mehl3,6.
She also co-edited the proceedings of the Erlangen symposium on religion and society in Cyprus (2005) with Vassos Karageorghis and Matthäus8. With Karageorghis and Elena Poyiadji-Richter she edited Cypriote Antiquities in Berlin in the Focus of New Research (2014), from a conference held in Berlin on 8 May 2013. In it she and Eftychia Zachariou-Kaila published the colossal mural-crowned female head in the Berlin collection2,7. She edited the proceedings of a Nicosia conference on Salamis held on 21 to 23 May 2015 with Christina Ioannou and Theodoros Mavrojannis, published in 2019 as Salamis of Cyprus; two of its photographs, of the capitals of the temple of Zeus Olympios and of the basilica of Campanopetra, are hers4.
