    Founded on the lines proposed by Tessa Verney Wheeler and Mortimer Wheeler, to train in archaeological method and act as a research centre with a global remit.

    Exhibition of newly acquired Cypriot material, shown with Vounous objects allocated to the Fitzwilliam Museum and Birmingham Museum. Kiely says the Institute was keen to build a collection from excavated contexts rather than market purchases.

    Underwater survey of Cyprus's west coast between Maa and Lara (1983) and Coral Bay and Lara (1984) directed by C. Giangrande; over 30 stone anchors recorded in the Archaeological Reports summary; preliminary report in RDAC 1987. Leonard describes Giangrande as an American then studying at the Institute.
