Stella M. Lubsen-Admiraal
fl. 1989–2014
Author of the published catalogues of Thanos Zintilis's Cypriot collection, from the 1989 Amsterdam exhibition to the 2003 SIMA volume and the 2004 Athens museum catalogue.
Biography
Stella M. Lubsen-Admiraal published the Cypriot collection of Thanos N. Zintilis. In 1989 she and Joost Crouwel produced the catalogue of the exhibition Cyprus & Aphrodite at the Allard Pierson Museum, Amsterdam3,9. L. Alpe describes it as the first public showing of the collection, with some objects published then and most still unpublished1.
In the festschrift for Vassos Karageorghis (Kypriakai Spoudai 54-55, 1990-91) she published a female limestone figure, Z.662, said to have been found below a wall of a building at Kidasi, about 20 km north of Kouklia-Palaepaphos and then on loan to the Allard Pierson Museum; the same article proposed a typology of Chalcolithic stone figurines10. Christian Winkelmann later set her typology against those of Goring and Flourentzos and corrected her on the context of some pieces from Kissonerga3. In 1994 she published the collection's seven stone plank figures, which Falconer, Monahan and Fall say are purported to come from a Bronze Age cemetery at Kidasi-Foutsi, with painted decoration noted on five4. In 2002 she published "The Goddess of Achna. Heptastolos" in Cahiers du Centre d'Etudes Chypriotes 3211.
Her catalogue Ancient Cypriote Art in the T.N. Zintilis Collection (SIMA 20:25, with a CD-ROM) appeared in 200312. Alpe counts 714 objects in it: 389 pottery, 79 stone, 57 terracotta statuettes, 30 metal and 159 pieces of jewellery1. The collection, until then at the Allard Pierson Museum, went to the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens in 20021, and her museum catalogue for the Goulandris Foundation followed in 20047,13.
