Life and work

  1. 1924
Co-author with Christian Blinkenberg of the Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum fascicle for the National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen, which publishes part of its Cypriot pottery (Early/Middle Bronze Age and Cypro-Archaic); cited as 'Blinkenberg & Friis Johansen 1924' and, in Karageorghis (2002), 'JOHANSEN (F.K.) 1924'.

  2. 1924
The National Museum, Copenhagen, purchased in 1924 an inscribed amphora (Mitford no. 283) and nine inscribed sherds from the Kafizin nymph sanctuary; Mitford learned this from Friis Johansen's 1953 publication. How the purchase was arranged is not stated.

  3. 1953
Published the Copenhagen Kafizin material: 'Weihinschriften aus dem Nymphenheiligtum des Kafizin Hügels, Kypros', Det Kongelige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab, Arkæologisk-kunsthistoriske Meddelelser 4, 1 (1953), pp. 1-29: one complete vase and nine fragments (Inv. 8364-8372). Fraser notes the inscriptions are excellently illustrated and hopes for a corpus; Megaw says it will ease T. B. Mitford's work on the dedications.

  4. 1953–1980
Mitford's 1980 corpus of the Kafizin inscribed pottery cites Friis Johansen's publication for the Copenhagen pieces and records that he agreed with Mitford's reading of kouryas as a deme-name from the territory of Idalion (a reading Mitford later abandoned in favour of a trade title).
