Douglas Baird

fl. 1982–2005

Prehistorian who surveyed western Cyprus for the Lemba Archaeological Project in the 1980s and later wrote the pottery chapter for the Kalavasos-Ayious publication.

Biography

The survey reports of the Lemba Archaeological Project in western Cyprus carry the name D. Baird, and the Ceramics chapter of the Kalavasos-Ayious volume was written by Douglas Baird. Archaeology in Cyprus 1981-85 records that members of the Lemba project surveyed at Drousha, Peyia and the Stavros tis Psokas valley1. D. Baird reported on the Peyia village territory in 1983 in the Report of the Department of Antiquities, Cyprus for 19854. In 1991 he published a flexible classification of Late Neolithic and Chalcolithic pottery in Cypriot Ceramics: Reading the Prehistoric Record5.

Winkelmann calls him the ceramicist working on the material from Kalavasos-Ayious3. He wrote the Ceramics chapter of the 2004 Ayious volume in the Vasilikos Valley Project series6, and in 2005 he was the first-named of five authors of the Artifacts chapter in the volume on Kalavasos-Tenta edited by Ian A. Todd7. His dates of birth and death are not recorded.
