Anne Destrooper-Georgiades
fl. 1984–2024
Numismatist who identified and published coins from Cypriot excavations and catalogued the coin holdings of the Hubbard and Gunther collections in the Cyprus Museum.
Biography
Anne Destrooper-Georgiades identified and published the coins from excavations at Dali, Nicosia and Nea Paphos and catalogued two coin collections in the Cyprus Museum. In 1984 she re-examined the Larnaca hoard (IGCH 1272) in the Department of Antiquities' Report1, and in 1998 she published with Andreas Symeonides the coins of the Symeonides collection that circulated in Marion6.
Her excavation reports include an overstruck bronze of Ptolemy I or Demetrios Poliorketes found by the University of Arizona at Dali3, a hoard of silver coins from Nikokreontos and Hadjopoulou Streets in Nicosia, published with Despina Pilides in 20087, and the coins of the Australian mission at Fabrika, Nea Paphos9. Pilides thanked her for an autopsy and preliminary identification of the coins from the 1997 excavation on St George's Hill in Nicosia15.
She also catalogued collections now in the Cyprus Museum: the 57 city-kingdom coins of the Hubbard collection8 and the Cypriot coins of the Gunther collection10. For the Gunther collection she traced 67 Archaic and Classical coins in the Cyprus Museum out of 2,286 recorded originally, with about 288 in the American Numismatic Society in New York11. Her Le monnayage des cités-royaumes de Chypre appeared in 20075. In 2020 she contributed an appendix on coins of the S.O.F.I.A. Foundation and Photiades collections to a catalogue by Vassos Karageorghis11.
