The project
In 1927 George Anastasiou, a Museum Assistant, cleared a tomb at Ayia Paraskevi for the Cyprus Museum1. Dikaios describes the tomb-group, which was in the museum when he wrote, as two layers: a lower one of White Painted and a few Red Polished vases, which he assigns to the Middle Bronze Age, and an upper one of large numbers of Late Bronze Age Cypriot wares, a few Mycenaean vases and two seal-cylinders1. He used the group to argue that the cemetery held Middle and Late Bronze Age burials as well, so that a cylinder Sayce attributed to an Early Bronze Age context could not be dated on the assumption that the cemetery was wholly Early Bronze Age1.
