The project
In 1973 two partly looted tombs were discovered during levelling work in the known prehistoric cemetery of Ayia Paraskevi, in the south-east of Nicosia1. The annual notice lists White Painted III-V, Red Polished and Red Slip pottery, mostly small vessels, and three terracotta figurines1. One is a bearded human figure, flat like Early Bronze Age plank idols but with differentiated arms, legs and head, with a surviving height of 34 cm (CS. 2028/1)1. The other two are Red Polished animal figurines with small heads and slender, elongated bodies (CS. 2028/2 and 2028/3)1.
