White Shaved ware
Also called: White Shaved
A Late Cypriot handmade ware of slender, pointed-based juglets whose pale surfaces were pared smooth with a knife.
White Shaved juglets are spindle-shaped, with a single handle, a pointed base and often a trefoil mouth. The surface was trimmed with a blade while the clay was leather-hard, which gives the ware its name and its faceted look.
They are often called dipper juglets because the shape copies the dipper juglets of Palestine. More have been found in Palestine than in Cyprus, and on the island they cluster around Enkomi, the likely place of manufacture, which suggests they were made for the mainland market.
