Archaeologist

Kurt Koritzky

fl. 1910 · Germany

German archaeologist, active in 1910. Worked with Max Ohnefalsch-Richter.

Life and work

  1. 8 May 1910 – 9 May 1910
Accompanied Ohnefalsch-Richter on a rapid surface visit to the Rantidi area near Palaepaphos; the party included Kleanthis Pierides, the brothers Michailis and Evelthon Apostolides (tenants of the Sinai monastery farm) and clandestine diggers led by Jangos Hadjisavvas. Rain and nearby police prevented photographs and squeezes. Ohnefalsch-Richter's circular says they found at least a dozen fragments with syllabic inscriptions.

  2. 10 May 1910
Signed alone the request to the British High Commissioner for a permit to excavate at Rantidi; he was to take a sea passage from Limassol that day and carried Ohnefalsch-Richter's circular letter (dated Limassol, 10 May 1910) to German professors.

  3. 22 August 1910
The excavation permit went to Robert Zahn of the Berlin museums; Koritzky no longer figured in the project.
