Fieldwork·In brief
Kourion's mosaic conservators are to get two prefabricated buildings in a €113,447 tender
The Department of Antiquities wants an office, kitchen, sitting room, storerooms and two WCs built at the site within two months; offers close on 10 November 2026.
The team that conserves the mosaic floors of Kourion is to have its own base on the site. On 22 October 2026 the Department of Antiquities opened a tender for the work, estimated at €113,447 before VAT, under reference 13.25.004/11/2026.
The contractor will lay concrete foundations and install two prefabricated units. On the architect's ground plan they hold a kitchen, a sitting room, an office, two storerooms and two WCs, with a pergola between them; the contract also covers a canopy, drainage and connections to the site's water, sewerage and electricity. The works are estimated to take two months. Offers are due by 11:00 on 10 November, and the contract goes to the lowest price.
The tender's health and safety plan treats the ground as possibly holding archaeological remains. Should a find appear during digging, that zone is closed, nothing is moved, and building restarts only on a recorded instruction from the archaeological authority. The works area is to be fenced off, with a separate path kept open for visitors.
Kourion's richest Roman and Late Roman remains are its mosaic floors, among them those of the House of Eustolios, east of the theatre, and the labelled gladiator panels of the House of the Gladiators, which the Department excavated from 1967.
