Episkopi-Bamboula: Weinberg and Grace soundings and architectural study, 1951
1951 · Episkopi-Bamboula
Saul S. Weinberg's study of the architecture of J. F. Daniel's Bamboula excavations in summer 1951, funded by the American Philosophical Society.
The project
Daniel's work at Episkopi-Bamboula was not taken up again until the summer of 1951, when Saul S. Weinberg made an intensive study of the site's architecture, which had been left unanalyzed after Daniel's death1. The American Philosophical Society funded the trip, and Ellen Kohler accompanied and assisted him1. Graziadio, in a review, names Virginia Randolph Grace as undertaking additional soundings with Weinberg2. Benson's 1972 volume on the Bamboula necropolis and finds does not include the architecture; its preface says the report on architecture will also be published separately1.
