Base Ring Mother and Child Figure

Terracotta female figure holding infant; Base Ring II ware; hand-made; flattened, solid construction; two double pierced ears, with all four hanging circular ear-rings preserved; beak-shaped nose and large applied pellets for eyes; short body with exaggerated hips, tapering to stubby feet, slightly out-turned; arms and hands clasping the higly stylised infant to her chest; incised detail of horizontal bands around neck, diagonal strokes and lines, and three horizontal lines on one side, on pubic triangle and upper thighs; incised vertical line indicating legs, fingers also delineated.
