"White Painted Bird Askos"

Description:

Pottery askos in form of animal, probably a bird (perhaps an owl based on similarities with rattles of the same type); hand-made; elongated body with a tail-like projection at the back; four simple stump-like legs; horn-like projections at the front; two pierced eye-holes and a larger hole below, probably for pouring; loop handle with oval section fixed into the back. Made of fine cream-buff decorated with black paint: criss-crossing bands on the body. Surface very worn.
